We are introducing a new murky IPA with our friends at Moksa Brewing. Syren features a beautiful bouquet of hops including Riwaka, Nelson Sauvin, and Mosaic. Luring scents of juicy peach and lychee waft from the glass and give way to flavors of tangerine, candied lemon, and dank. This dangerously delicious collab is impossible to resist.

Type: 14-oz. draft
Reviewed as: New England IPA
Glass: Pure Project 14-oz. snifter elemental (fire) glass
Price: $15.00 for the beer and the glass (I think $12 for the glass, $3 for the beer)
From: Pure Project Balboa Park in Balboa Park (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: Nov. 16, 2021
Consumed: Nov. 16, 2021
Misc.: Collab with Moksa; Went on release day for the second of four elemental glasses
Went to Pure Project for a glass they were handing out. They are doing four elemental glasses each Tuesday in November, in order water, fire (this one), earth and air. Their website called it “We are introducing a new murky IPA with our friends at Moksa Brewing. Syren features a beautiful bouquet of hops including Riwaka, Nelson Sauvin, and Mosaic. It was a bit dark in there, but the color appeared to be hazy golden with two fingers of frothy white head when I got it. Could see just a few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Perfect spiderweb lacing. Almost perfect retention. (Sight - 4.75)
Smelled big Nelson, dank weed, gooseberry, tangerine, peach, papaya, white wine, light Mosaic, floral, mango, grapefruit and pineapple. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted just a step down from the nose. In order got Riwaka, Nelson, dank weed, peach, viney berry, gooseberry, papaya, chewy caramel candy squares, tangerine rind, trashy Mosaic, grapefruit and pineapple. For some reason some rubber came to mind too. Would’ve guessed Motueka blind. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Dry finish. (Feel - 3.75)
This was outstanding overall, but not as good after the smell. (Overall - 4.00)

Canned on 11/2/21; consumed on 11/23/21
Pours a completely hazed-over, bright sunflower-gold body capped with three fingers of rocky, fluffy, white foam; good head retention leaves a thin veil of cap, a larger, frothy collar, and layers of webby, soapy lacing caked to the walls of the glass.
Aroma opens vibrantly tropical, bringing waves of pineapple, guava, and mango resins guiding toward peppery rye bread over the middle and a touch of lemon tart, dank peach, and white grape must on the close.
Taste features white grape must saturated in mango pith upfront, tinges of creamy guava advancing a subtle sweetness over the mid-palate before orange peel and a slight lime twang across the back end, with moss accenting the finish.
Mouthfeel offers a medium-full body marked with a dense texture and a subdued, fluffy carbonation, dispersing to an almost mineralic tautness over the mid-palate; juicy resins develop as the overall character lightens over time, though remains bright with well-intermingled hop acidity through the finish.
A nose promising lush tropics delivers a profile comparatively earthy, obscuring peak complexities for a more one-dimensional, although solidly executed, citrus and greener hoppy approach; promising, though falls short of delivering at the highest levels.
