DATE: September 14, 2018... OCCASION: bathroom primed--time for another of Jeff's friendly Vermont gifts... GLASSWARE: Duvel tulip... pours from a sixteen-ounce can a half-glass of dense, murky orange body that teems with bubbles upon close inspection... its head is a magnificent four-fingered clump of thickness that holds resiliently to its height... immediate scents of horse blanket, Granny's coal basement, dank hops wrestling with malty oats and cereal grains--winning some, losing some, but twisting lemon, grapefruit, and earthy resin out of that density... brewer John Kimmich said they wanted this to straddle the space between an IPA and a double IPA, and one can feel the breaking point in the teeth, with a juiciness that resonates and coats, but doesn't overpower... in fact, sipping or swigging, this seems at home, leaving a puckering draw that imparts its flavors generously--and what a lingering sensation it leaves!... the pub floor flavor pervades, with the dank malts and sweet resins dancing in time, balancing each other out while grapefruit, orange, melon, light spiciness from the cereal malts, and a tobacco graininess up the ante on its complexity... needless to say, a light heavyweight--or a heavy middleweight--of a beer, one distinguished beyond HT and FB, and though it outstrips neither in overall effect, this could be its own go-to, given its profile and well-situated ABV...

Frothy two fingers of foam, light tan to off-white with a mild orange tint, retention is adequate and it maintains a full surface coating, the sheets of lacing slide down the glass with ease. Translucent haze to the bronzed orange liquid, no real noticeable particulate, highly active storm of tiny bubbles stream swiftly upwards. The nose drips with pink grapefruit to tangerine and lime citrus, considerably honeyed as well, the malts on the whole outlast the hops, the latter more floral and pretty than dank, solid dose of mango, peach, cantaloupe to guava fruit scents. Full-bodied, based on the visuals you’d think there would be more carbonation prickle but instead it’s creamy if not exactly soft. Tar, tea leaf and pine sap set the stage. Clear uptick in herbaceousness, albeit not finding it all that bitter or puckering. Although less so than in the nose, the juicy pink grapefruit, tangelo citrus a major factor. The florality dewy is not outright musky and it shows a minty element as well. Malts smooth out the texture further. Caramel dappled mango, peach, apricot fruit, round and eschews tart bite. The biggest drawback is its density, at times you feel like you are chewing it. Otherwise, a citrusy and fruity flavor explosion.

It's a shame that all their other beers are soooo good cause this is awesome but further down the list by comparison.
