Visiting Pilsner Urquell's underground cellars and tasting their original pitch lined barrel-fermented and conditioned golden lager will leave an impression like no other beer experience can. Years can drift by and you will still remember the cellar's damp, bitter cold. You will remember the rows and rows of majestic barrels lining its hallowed walls. Most importantly, you will remember how tasting the original pilsner from one of these hand-crafted vessels reminded you of why you fell in love with beer in the first place. This is the experience we drew from when making Sklepník .

This version was fermented and conditioned in stainless steel conical tanks.

Had lukr tap. Cloudy bronzed golden body with a soft and sudsy eggshell white head leaving behind blobs of lacing everywhere. The trinity of malt, hops, and yeast here are the star, giving off aromas of cracker, honeycomb, lemon, white bread freshly baked, faint white pepper, with some minerality and grass in the background. Taste is much the same, minerals more like mineral water, some orange pith there too. Feel is soft and full bodied with an artful airiness behind the weight of the malt and yeast, smooth and rewarding. The wife liked it

At The Cookie Bar on Drouillard Rd. in nearby Windsor. On tap and chilled, 4oz. in a flight of ten beers. My tenth beer from the Toronto, Ontario brewery, and seventh for 2025. Leading an outing of my Responsible Beer Drinking Club...

Previously had stainless version of this on tap at Godspeed in Toronto (they managed to get a last pint out of an essentially kicked keg for me); this is the pitch-lined Pilsner Urquell barrel variant - 12 ounce can just in here in Edmonton (though canning date from October 2024?? - so I purchased just 2 cans).
Pours a chilled hazed, slightly cloudy bright golden with a finger of fine bubbly white head.
Nose of bready malt, a touch of citrus/lemon, floral notes - honeysuckle - slightly grassy.
Grainy bready malt on the palate, floral, slightly grassy and herbal with a crisp spicy bitterness to the finish.
Wonderfully bright medium mouthfeel with zippy carbonation and a lingering spicy bitterness.
Honestly, I think most times a beer should be packaged in a 12 ounce container (what are you doing drinking 16 ounces of an 8% beer?), but this begs for the 16 ounce format.

There are two versions of this beer. One is made in pitch lined wooden vessels and one is made in stainless tanks. This is the stainless version.

A 355ml can dated May 08, 2025, poured into a pilsner glass. A big three finger off white head on a slightly hazy gold. Excellent head retention. Lots of lacing.

Fresh grain, some grass in the nose. Some noble hop aroma. Taste is of bready malts. Sweet at first. A subdued but long dry hop finish.

A medium/light body with good carbonation. Overall a solid take on a classic style.

May 25 2026 - the pitch lined edition

From a 355ml can packaged on Feb 19 2026. Poured into a pilsner glass. A one finger white head on a slightly cloudy gold. The head soon diminishes to a thin layer. Some Patchy lacing.

Some fruity grain in the nose. The taste is sweet bready malts. A dry, very mild noble hop finish..

A medium body and good carbonation. Smooth and refreshing. Overall a solid Czech Pilsner. True to the style ans well worth a try.

Appeareance: Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a two finger head; good retention and some webby lacing lingers

Smell: Bready malt, cracked pepper, hay, lemon zest and grass

Taste: Assertive and spicy, from the outset, with cracked pepper, hay and grassy flavors forward; lemon zest and a bit of sulfur emerge, after the swallow, providing for a rather bitter finish

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: I can see why the brewer was invited to collaborate with Pilsner Urquell; imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

Thanks, zid, for the opportunity

Canned 7/6/23

Another beer from my LIF box from Coronaeus. He sent 2 from Godspeed, this being the first of them. A simple beer to start my night, just a simple Czech Pilsner. Let’s crack it open and see what it’s all about

Pours a slightly cloudy deep gold with 3 fingers of soapy white head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing

The nose has a wonderful brightness to it, but still some classic bitterness. I’m picking up on aromas of lemon zest, bready malt, sweet honey, orange zest, black pepper, earthy hops, raw grain, and grass

It’s a lot of the same in taste, but there’s this subtle fruitiness to it as well that I dig. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting lemon zest, crackery malt, white grape, raw grain, earthy hops, grass, white pepper, and a touch of blueberry. The swallow brings notes of crackery malt, sweet honey, blueberry, orange zest, honey, peppery hops, light grass, and raw grain

A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes a tad sticky but dries out over time

This is damn good all around. I’m excited to try the other Godspeed beer he sent

Hazy golden orange, two fingers of foam and plenty of lacing. Aroma is mellow with some dry grassy hop character and clean lager yeast.

Hopped like an IPL, it’s resinous, grassy and bitter, which lingers into the dry aftertaste. Zero citrus or pine, zero American hops, all noble Czech Saaz. Mild crackery pale malt base. Light to medium bodied, supple and round.

Overall a nice hop-forward lager, not too different from their Svetly Lezak 12°. Cheers to Vom Boden for importing Godspeed.

A delight.
I found this can at The Beer Temple (who also has Sklepnik on tap now.)
Before I say why Sklepnik delighted my buds, I explain my extreme Overall Hugs for a six year old micro (such High Hugs I usually give to multi-generational enterprises that include kitchens.) First, quality Canadian micros are too hard to come by; given the distribution regime we live under. So when someone like the Beer Temple makes the effort to bring in our brethren from the north, then God Bless them. Second, part of Godspeed's quality is its dedication to also brewing for the kitchen, eclectic but centered on brewing for sausage... specifically wurst. As a vegetarian and malt-head, I should not view Godspeed as friendly; but they obviously are.

Finally, the beer. I want more. Here's why. While Sklepnik's Looks and Smells are only above average to its style, what it does to my mouth is considerably more above average. The malt-hop interplay is balanced at a high level. My mouth Feels like it wants more, too.

I'm running back to The Beer Temple before they run out of this delight.

On tap at The Sheffield in Brighton, NY.

This one pours a mostly clear light orange color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells lightly doughy, with some lemon zest, a snappy bitter hop character, and some light mineral tones.

This is a really good Canadian/Japanese take on Pilsner Urquell, probably as close to that classic Czech lager as anybody’s gonna get, due to how this was brewed using Urquell’s actual pitch lined barrels. It’s got a full flavor to it for the style, with a firm, present, and delicious spicy hop bitterness, a doughy but not sweet light malt backbone, with some minerally spice and freshly baked bread.

This is light bodied, crisp, and oh so clean, with a fantastic drinkability. The carbonation level is just so soft and perfect.

What Godspeed is doing is pretty much exactly what I want in beer these days. This is absolutely a treat to try.

From notes

Appearance: Yellow/Orange color with medium carb and a thumb of head. All around decent, but nothing outstanding.

Smell: Barley Malt, citrus hops that requiring warming to come out, all in all meh.

Taste: Unroasted malt with orange zest and gives to a bit of pith and mixed citrus with a cleansing earth and pine finish.

Mouthfeel: Mostly clean with a mixed citrus, earth and pine hops cling to it. Transitioning is decent, as is the carbonation that helps out the entire beer.

Drinkability: Closer to medium on the medium-low side of body, no has issues and settles down well, but again meh is noted.

Final Thoughts: This is why you take notes, because I honestly forgot I had this beer. That said, my impression of it was that is was not remarkable at all. This is Godspeed's second strike with me.
