Dynamo Cream Lager is balanced and smooth with the body and flavour of an ale but qualify as a lager.

In 1888, founder JP Barber built the first electrical power station in Georgetown, Ontario – the first of its kind in North America. By damming the Credit River, he created a waterfall to power the turbines that ran the Dynamo. Remnants of the Dynamo and the dam are still visible today. Our dynamo Cream Lager is also the first of its kind in Georgetown and has been referred to as the “craft drinker’s beer.”

Rather heavy handed stuff overall. Apple juice looking pour with a short head immediately settling to a thin partial film. Malty nose with some underlying grassy hops. Heavy mouthfeel. Malty sweet with hardly anything by way of hops to cut through the weight of it. An uninspired effort.

L: Translucent medium orange amber. Plenty of bubbles and nearly no head,
S: Slightly sweet and corny, grassy hops and cracker grainy malts
T: The first sip was very promising, a bold lager taste I'm looking for but it quickly degraded and became one dimensional corny malt and watery... A bit sweet, not bitter, lingering slightly unpleasant aftertaste.
F: Feels like you're taking a sip of water at first then it feels a bit frothy and then creamy. You can feel the carbonation at the end of the sip.
O: Was excited to find this beer was from Georgetown and the first sip was great but afterwards it became worse with every sip until it was kind of bad. The can was 4 months old, maybe that's why.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Aug 7 2020 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a golden-orange hue; relatively clear, except for the countless flecks of sediment suspended throughout the liquid. Over one finger of soapy, foamy white head settles off within three minutes time, replaced with a tight, creamy collar surrounding an islet of film. No lacing to speak of, but it looks alright. Very muted on the nose - hints of pale malts and cereal grain sweetness, with just a hint of weedy grass and straw.

Yep, it's a cream ale... or lager, in this instance, I suppose. Clean, straightforward flavour profile that is largely dictated by its malt bill - doughy malts and cereal grains joined by a touch of floral, grassy hops and towards the finish. Cereal sweetness and grassiness linger into the aftertaste. Light in body, with moderate carbonation levels that impart a crisp, prickly snap to this brew's generally smooth mouthfeel. Easy to toss back, and fairly sessionable.

Final Grade: 3.47, a B-. Furnace Room's Dynamo is a decent 'cream lager', nothing more or less - very middle of the road, to be honest - and since I don't drink a lot of cream ale in the first place, I doubt I'll be returning to this one any time soon. Recommended if you enjoy craft beer at its simplest.

473 ml can served cool into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for about $3.25 CDN.

Appearance - Brilliantly clear amber colored brew. Two fingers of foamy white head rest on top. Staying power is enhanced by the plethora of bubbles rising to the surface.

Smell - Mostly grainy, subtle leafy hops and light caramel notes backing everything up. Not a big nose.

Taste - Mild, some fruity elements of prune and raisin, caramel notes and just of touch of metallic notes at the close.

Mouthfeel - Light and lively and bubbly, good expressive carbonation medium body, easy drinking and fell pairs nicely with the flavors.

Overall - Worked nicely as a thirst quencher after eating sausage for lunch as mentioned by another reviewer. The savory and subtle sweetness complemented the richness of a smoked sausage wonderfully. Easy drinking and light but with enough flavor to be welcome on its own. The can sampled isn't the coldest can - will add notes if anything changes with a can that has been in the fridge for many hours.

Appearance: Poured with a finger and a half of frothy head that produced some mild lacing, and retained quite well. The body is a site though, as depending on how the light hits it a beautiful translucent dark gold to a middle of the road amber color. Ample carbonation in the body. Improvements to the head would net it the perfect score.

Smell: This is really the beer's weak point, as it's not very potent, even after warming. A dose of caramel and straw malt with a hint wet grass and maybe a touch of lemon zest. Nothing bad mind you, just not a lot to talk about.

Taste: Starts with milder caramel malt that seems somewhat needlessly restrained by a wet grass touch that comes across as a more straw and almost mild rye touch with a hint of fruity yeast so mild I can't pick out specifics before a very even keel earth, lemon and floral hop note comes to clear the table. It's a bit peculiar to be honest, but interesting.

Mouthfeel: The carbonation is very well done, as it gives the beer a nice foamy texture. The aftertaste is a strange mild mix that just pushes the line as to it's cling to your palate. The transitioning is smooth, like driving up and down a small set of hills with your car.

Drinkability: The beer certainly reminds you of it's carbonation after it is down the hatch, as it is a bit gassy. It's quite refreshing, which when paired with it's stronger flavor backbone and light body makes this a good offering for all but the cold winter months.

Final Thoughts: It's an odd fellow, especially for a lager, but I would likely still welcome it regardless. It does a good job of running the line between a generic sweltering heat lager and a more caramel rich amber. I can see this being exceptional with sausage or German food. So far the best of the bunch I've had from this brewer. Thumbs Up

Pours a nice caramel colour but no head whatsoever. The smell is sweet, like a cream ale. The taste is also sweet but has an unpleasant aftertaste. Nicely carbonated, so I’m wondering why no head?
