been awhile since i had a marlowe beer and was really looking forward to this, but it was not a wonderful experience as hoped for, the beer is hazy and murky and dense and sedimented and poorly refined and heavy for what it is as a result, i expected cleaner and objectively better, but freshness could be an issue, long travel distance for this to idaho obviously, but no date is legible on the bottom of the can. sick art on this, and i love the name, and i also dig a trendy brewery doing a style like this. looks yeasty through nice carbonation, deep brown color to it, but messy. the nose is a little oxidized but definitely english in terms of grain and yeast, nutty, biscuity, toasty, some light cocoa character too, on the dry side to me, some roast, some bitterness, some dark bread, pleasant and inviting, even slightly bold for the style, dont mind that at all. the flavor shows some time fade to me too, a staleness in the malt, wet paper and cardboard, some good minerality and base cereal character from the grain though too, this has all the potential in the world and seems quite well constructed, but by the time it ends up in my glass its unimpressive and defeated looking, tasting, and feeling. bubbles dont push through the sediment enough to make this as light as i want the style to be, and its a tough can to finish. i wanted to love this, was in the mood for a dark mild, and can see the potential this has, but it didnt quite come together in my experience. a shame...
