This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like roasted malt, cookie dough, espresso shots, vanilla, dark chocolate, and a little bit of bourbon.
This is “only” 10.5%, which is like 3-4% lower than most barrel aged stouts these days. It’s actually kind of refreshing in this case, as the body is a little bit more manageable. There’s some really nice barrel character here – bourbon, caramel, and vanilla, with a touch of oak. There’s lots of dark chocolate here, and some roast, too.
There’s a nice creamy smoothness to this, with no real booziness to it. It’s nimbler than most barrel aged stouts these days, which works for me.
This was really enjoyable – I’ve liked the beers I’ve had in this series.
