Human Robot Brewing "Oktoberfest"
16 fl. oz. can coded "09/15/2023" and sampled on 10/01/2023
$16/4-pk @ the brewery on Sep 21, 2023
Notes via stream of consciousness: A clear copper colored body displays orange and golden highlights beneath a full head of off-white foam. The head retention is excellent. Oddly I'd sampled their other fest beer earlier in the day, in the same glass, and the head retention was just OK. The aroma is malty with toasty bread and a very light hint of medium caramel. There's a very light bit of hops to it as well but I doubt most people are going to be able to pick that up as it's definitely not coming from a late hop addition. I've been brewing professionally for about 30 years now so I get it but regardless, it's not supposed to have any hop to it anyway so there you go! It's clean and balanced and that's all you really need. The flavor reveals a richer maltiness than the aroma suggests but not by too much. It's grainy, grassy (that may be the hops as well), toasty, and lightly caramelish. There's some spiciness to it from the hops and it has a sweet and delicately spicy character. I unfortunately find that a lot of American breweries tend to over-do their Märzens but that's not the case here. It's really nicely balanced all around, and fully flavored and complex but not to the point that you can't just drink it without thinking about it. In the mouth it's medium bodied and creamy with a medium, fine-bubbled carbonation. All in all it's a great example of a Märzenbier.

(0.5l mug pour at the brewery around 1p on 24 Sep... review copied from notes taken on my phone)
Excellent!... funky-honey-kissed, nutty grain... grassy-earthy, dried-flower aftertaste... lovely head, messy lacing... doughy like a dense, honey-infused cake... that dark Vienna (malt flavor) just won't go away... almost meaty like bacon (in its) concentrated malt (dense, lean)... perfect level of bitterness cleaving through the plump malt middles... rich, almost resinous texture; residual lipsmacks... one of the best O-Fests, especially domestic(-made)
what I can add from memory: maybe it's because it's fresh and made on-site, but this was one of the most vibrant, dynamic Marzens I've ever had, and I would love to return and have another mug and/or get some cans... so many subtle detectable nuances, hardly one note; I wanted another, but had to bounce (2036)

16oz can served in a footed pilsner glass. No date. @jonphisher gave it to me.
Pours a clear light amber / copper color with a medium to small sized head and lots of active carbonation. Smell is mild, light, grainy, and sweet. Maybe a wisp of grass.
Taste is grainy, light nuts and toffee, sweet brown bread. Nutty / husky bitterness.
Mouthfeel is light and dry. Nice beer!

Light copper in color with a good amount of head. It's got all the taste and aroma common to Marzens - malty and bready with a touch of bitterness and a light drinkable body. Doesn't pop quite as much as Ayinger's but it's a very solid example.

Oktoberfest
Human Robot Brewing
Date: None
Starting with aMarzens tonight for the tasting. First beer from this brewery. I poured it into a German dimple mug, and the temp was around 44 degrees. The pour created a frothy and airy light tan head with okay retention. The somewhat quick dissipation left little lacing on the glass. The color charts around SRM 13, medium amber with rusty orange highlights.
I smell toasted bread, caramel, a hint of floral, some earthiness, phenolic, and malty sweetness. The aromas are typical for this style; the sweetness is a bit more pronounced.
I tasted toasted bread, lots of caramel, malty sweetness, floral, and earthiness. As I continue sipping the beer, the big malty beer shines like the bright sun.
The mouthfeel is carbonated and creamy.
The body is medium, medium carbonation, and the finish is fast.
The beer is on point with its style. Overall, it is above average and drinkable. Good beer from Human Robot; I would like to discover what else they offer. One of the better Marzen I have consumed thus far, this fall.

Clear amber pour with two fingers of foam and symmetrical lacing. Bread and toast leads with light caramel malt and dark grain in the nose, very clean and pleasant. Taste follows suit, nails the yeast and malt interaction in a toasty way. Lightly bitter on the finish, otherwise clean, smooth, and crisp in a light body. One of the better marzens of 2021

Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug.
Appearance: rich orange hue with a touch of haze and a thick finger of frothy ivory foam. It's about as Oktoberfest as you get.
Smell: bready malt aroma that's got a little sweetness and is not biscuity at all. This is about as good as the style gets for me.
Taste: richly malty and a bit sweet, with a little bit of bread character and not as much toast as you often get in a Märzen. It's also not biscuity, and though it's a bit sweet, there's enough bitterness to achieve balance. Great!
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: I'm really happy with this beer. I think it's both a solid example of the style, and crafted to appeal to my personal palate more than many other Märzens.

I’ve never had this crystal clear of a beer from a small brewery, ever, it is a thing of beauty. The color lies somewhere on the lighter side of amber, almost a pale/golden copper. A nice layer of creamy froth persists and their some random spotty lacing.
Aroma is toasted bread crust and toasted grains. The grain smell sort of reminds me of the smell of corn kernels that don’t pop at the bottom of a popcorn bag.
The taste is mostly crusty bread and toasted grain as well.
Medium body with a full rich mouthfeel to it. Drinks nice and easy and finishes smooth and clean with a low but noticeable bitterness.
I really like this beer, a really fine American marzen. Full and complex mouthfeel that goes down clean and fast

Pours a rich, deep copper color; perfectly clear; with a large, bubbly, light tan head. Minimal soapy lacing.
Sweet malt aroma with a hint of cherry and a dry, bready character behind.
Clean tasting, in a reverse order from the nose. Dry, lightly-toasty dark bread gives way to just a kiss of very light cherry sweetness. Moderate earthy bitterness and mineral water round out the finish, keeping everything in check.
Medium bodied, just a touch of slickness, on the flatter side of moderate carbonation.
A bit more malty sweetness than some pale festbier, but still highly drinkable. Another great lager from Human Robot.
