One of the advantages of spinning-off a style from the rubric saison category (as BA did perhaps two years ago for gristles) is that the spin-off gets to act like the parent; but also define its individuality. So it seems with the grisette. While I've only had 17 grisette (compared to 391 saisons), I've had enough of the spin-off to see a trend in the adolescent-parent relationship and, sometimes, open rebellion against the open-minded parent (being the saison.)
Furtigo comes close to rebellion. (And what's wrong with that?) It's like a saison in that it adds whatever grains are available at the end of the harvest. In this case, Dutchbag adds lots of wheat and oats; making a very soft mouth. But to achieve the high level of refreshment of the grissete, Dutchbag introduces stuff that the miners in the Ardennes never tasted such as Lithuanian mixed culture. But the rebellion against the saison parent works: Furtigo is refreshing, much like a wit without the added fruit and balanced. Vertigo has some parent DNA, a workman-like yeast... which is a yeast that kicks up lots of fruit. The hop usage strikes me as standard.
Bought this can from Beermiscuous and I've put it on my list to purchase again.
