2014 bottle rated in December 2019. Little too long I know. One of my first cellared beers ever. Got it in 08/2014. Color is classic scotch ale, dark red/mahogany hue. Aroma was rather sweet/malty probably because of the age, but still a tinge of the port on the veeeeeery end. Taste is not as sweet as the aroma would indicate, which was a welcome surprise, but still a bit on the malty side with no real port noticeable until the very back end of the tongue. Goes down smooth with little carbonation. Overall, after all these years, still very drinkable and satisfying. Wish I had opened it more in it's prime though.

2013 bottle in late 2015. Had it once about 8 months ago and thought it good. This time around either I got a better cared-for bottle or by some coincidence what I ate/drank earlier and this beer just AGREE. Excellent translucent copper color, decent lacing, pronounced port smell (boozy, vinous, sweet grape aroma on top of the basically malty beer). Taste follows, and frankly, it's like a delicious 9% red wine that happens to be mostly made from barley. Exceedingly drinkable and smooth feel, but definitely not too thin, finishing dry with just enough hops to remind you it's beer in your glass. I'd wish I'd saved it longer if I didn't enjoy drinking it so much right now. If that makes sense. Right now, I'm liking this more than I remember liking this year's bourbon-aged version on its first go...

750ml corked caged bottle poured into a pair of snifters. Apparently there was a date or a code on the top of the cage, but it mostly rubbed off.
Pours cloudy brown with a small head and little carbonation. Smell is yeasty, chalky, belgiany, a little smokey (but not very). Some dark fruit.
Taste is very Belgian with a definite grape juice hint. Tasty, but not terribly exciting. I'd like more of that smoke, less of the grape juice.
Mouthfeel is very light and airy. Surprisingly dry. Overall, not bad, but not great.
