This duo of beers, Robert and Jannemie, is an homage to our dear friend Floris's parents who have hosted us many times at their home in Antwerp, Belgium! Jannemie is a season brewed using both American and European malts and hops and a distinctive strain of farmhouse yeast. Primary fermentation took place in one of our unique open-top term enters which are perfectly designed for brewing yeast forward styles like Saison. This beer has characteristics of white pepper and fruit. Jannemie is also bottle conditioned with Brettanomyces adding notes of baking spice and jasmine.

Pours a chill hazed pale yellow thumb sized white head falls to a ring feed by active carbonation vents.

Aroma is light crisp brett right away, hay, lemon lime zest, pear, leather.

Taste nice zesty treat, sweet malts, hay, light zesty fruit notes. Brett from the nose is more subdued in the taste not overly tart or Brett persay. Does add some earthy, herbal leather hints or something is.

Mouthfeel is light crisp, zesty good for this beer.

Overall a good little Saison.

Poured from 330mL bottle into my Lord Chambray tumbler. Bottled February 2025.

Appearance: light golden hue with just a dash of haze and a super thick head of pillowy ivory foam. Excellent.

Smell: sweetish malt with a slightly sharp, quite funky Brett aroma. It's enticing.

Taste: malt is a good combination of sweet, grainy, and cereal-ey, and the Brett is nicely earthy and quite balanced. A very pleasant saison indeed.

Mouthfeel: light body with a giant carbonation and a good fluffiness, though it is maybe a bit thin to be truly creamy.

Overall: I'm really liking this beer. It has a good funk without being too sharp or oppressive. Very, very good.

Bottle shared with a buddy. Huge frothy head and great lacing. Nice aroma of fruity esters. Light pear, some mild tangerine. Tart and zesty. Funky and wild. Leathery mouthfeel. This is very good.

Bottle from 2019

A bit less than a fingers worth of late to develop off white colored fizzy froth that is quick to dissipate... Color is a golden draw and streaks of carbonation rise throughout... Rich vibrant nose of hay, passion fruit and Belgian yeast... Very inviting with nice complexity... Palate is a bit more one dimensional... Hay and fresh cut grass... A distinct hop presence mixes with the Brett to provide an interesting bitterness that li gets a bit... Medium bodied, crisp and quite fizzy... Nice beer but a bit kore balance would go a li g way...

Lightly foggy pale gold to yellow with a tall and convex white foam head.

Grassy pastures are contrasted by lemongrass accents, eschewing any obnoxious phenols for a more delicate, crisply bittering finish.

A refreshing beaut.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a light golden amber with a big four finger white head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of lightly grainy malt, saison yeast, apple juice, light brett and a bit of grapefruit. Flavor follows, with grainy malt, saison yeast, brett, lemon and grapefruit zest and some white pepper in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A solid saison that hits all the characteristics of the style. Good rustic malt, light to moderate brett, light fruit and hay. Great carbonation. Skates on the edge of tartness for me, I like a more assertive malt over the brett character, but quite enjoyable and a worthy farmhouse style ale.

Update, what a difference a little carbonation makes. The other bottle I had was great.

Bottle date 11/22/2021. Purchased at local big box liquor store in March 2023, stored cold.

There was no carbination in this bottle from what I could tell. Totally flat. Disappointing, maybe the worst 375ml bottle of RRBC product I have ever tried. Can't say I enjoyed it at all. I have another bottle, will revise this review if it is better.

Big ups to Jordan for snagging a few of these RR saisons for me.

Pours a yellow color, plenty of particulate, avoids clarity, big 3/4" white head with good retention. The aroma had a lot going on, yes the brett is here but its not one of those big fruity strains. Aroma of hay, dust, grain, wood and the lightest hybrid pluot like influence. Its like that slow meandering Pearl Jam song.

Taste and mouthfeel bring the light tartness, but firmly keeping the foot in the saison category, stay away wild ale bullshit! More layers of a sawft hay presence, light basic barley 2 row impression, light woody aspect. Light is the word of the day, because virtually everything is done in a light way here, and I mean that in the complimentary sense, sorry extreme BA. Traditional hopping means you don't taste hops here. I like that I can keep tasting the brett funk throughout.

At times, this makes you think this is what that RR/Sierra Nevada Flux or whatever collab should have been like.

Pours with a unfiltered golden yellow hue with a tight one finger white head. Nose is full of bright lemon and musky hay. Taste follows with nose with a sharp peppery citrus up front that folds into a bitter grassiness, and ends with long bitter sweet hay malt. Body is light to medium with medium carbonation. Ends dry with a lingering horse blanket funk bitterness. Overall a very nice traditional saison that is more terroir forward than yeast forward. Very well balanced.

Bottled on 6/16/2021 - consumed on 7/10/2022. Poured from a 375mL caged-and-corked bottle into my Brasseurs de Garde tulip.

Very faintly hazy icterine body with two fingers of milky white soft peaks above. Fine tendrils of lacing; good retention.

Winter and summer fruit in the nose - pears, peaches, apricots. Old hay, faint leather, light herbal/floral notes, and a whisper of funk. Gentle acidity and malt. Subtle and inviting.

Grain forward palate entry, mineral-rich, with a dry peppery/floral Brett note. Faint fruit and mild bitterness throughout. Low sourness with light herbal elements. Linear flavor profile. Finishes dry but not cutting. Floral elements (jasmine is indeed an accurate descriptor) "bloom" as the ale warms. Soft and sophisticated.

Medium-light bodied, well carbonated yet gentle body. Lightly warming yet refreshing.

Another excellent rendition of the style from Russian River - would have liked to have a bottle of Robert to compare to, but am pleased I found this one in any case.

Had at the brewery in Santa Rosa. Robert kicked up a notch with Brett. A funkier, more unique version. Very tasty.
