    16 oz. can.
    Can's bottom reads:

    "04/20/21
    I Inhaled...Frequently"

Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch white head over a hazy golden body with some lacing. Nose of citrus zest (orange), tropical fruit (mango), and a bit of herbs. Taste of orange, pineapple, and melon. Nice feel and overall, solid little IPA, and at only 6% abv., I could definitely have more than one! Cheers to Northwoods for this treat!

Huge rocky and sculpted head sitting atop a honey-amber body; dense carbonation. Rich, malty aroma; caramel and toasted grains; earthy spiciness. Big toasted grain flavor; honey-like sweetness; biscuits and honey; light to moderate hop bitterness. Medium body; light velvety texture with the residual sugars; gentle warmth throughout.

This beer is a rich and delightful offering. It highlights a winter warmer malt character, has a decent hop bitterness presence, and satisfies the soul.
    ----------
This is a delicious beer that got misclassified in the BA database. It is listed as an "IPA - American" when the brewery clearly calls it an "auburn / winter ale". Perhaps a lot of reviewers have given this beer a low rating thinking it is supposed to be something it isn't.

Well, I've submitted the style change request. And if I ever see this beer again, I'd be very happy to pour it down my gullet again...

The Garden Brewery - Imperial Raspberry & Coconut Stout

Imperial Pastry Stout with raspberry, coconut and cocoa nibs, from Croatia (8.5%).

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a small, wispy head. Smells of caramel malt, chocolate and raspberry, with just a hint of coconut coming through as well.

Taste is a good balance of caramel, very slightly roasted malt and strong milk chocolate and slightly tart and acidic raspberry notes, with lighter coconut also coming through. Finishes sweet and slightly tart, with some chocolate and raspberry lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This is very much dominated by the chocolate and raspberry, without really developing much of a flavor profile that goes beyond its additives, although it does strike a very nice balance of those sweet chocolate and tart raspberry flavors, with the coconut being noticeable as well, but staying a bit more in the background.

While I think that this could be a bit more rich and full-bodied for the style, drinking surprisingly easily, actually, that balance of sweet and tart elements really makes this work, never feeling too cloyingly sweet or boozy despite very little roasty or bitter elements coming through here.

Currently listening to: Joy Divison - Shadowplay.

I haven't read ANY posts here yet... except to note the open by @Roguer (thanks!).

My new-to-me beer today is another from Schell's that came along for the ride in the 12-pack that had the Limited Batch 001: Maibock in it that I reviewed in last week's bock tasting.

This beer... some MN BAs like it, and some declare it to be a mess. No doubt Schell's brews this beer just to have something to offer in the space, but that doesn't HAVE to mean it is also not well brewed.

    Schell’s IPA
    ABV: 5.8%
    IBU: 40

Tall white and airy head with excellent retention. Globby and sticky lacing. Yellow-orange with a zeller-esque slight haze and moderate to low carbonation.

Terrific aroma; fresh grapefruit, some floral, hints of pine.

Taste is as expected from the aroma - fresh grapefruit at the front. Lightly bitter (for an IPA) up front, which remains relatively consistent through the middle and finish, but grows into the aftertaste. The malts provide a bit of a sweet counterbalance to the hops. The floral flavors are present in the middle and continues. The pine shows up in the finish. The finish is a bit sweet, but also moderately bitter.

The body is a bit thin, but solid enough for the style.

Overall, this is a very tasty IPA. Lots of flavor, nicely balanced by sweetish malts, with just enough bittering to let you know it is an IPA. I found it to be quite enjoyable and refreshing.

Just put the kids down and came outside to listen to nature and enjoy this beautiful new beer. I haven’t had schilling until now, so new brewery weekend too.

Schilling Beer Co - Landbier Dunkel

warning I wrote way more than normal I must have really liked this one, as well as the peacefulness of being outside.

This one pours with some vigorous carbonation, which results in a high puffy not so dense head. Some big huge bubbles that popped pretty quickly. A beautiful color to it, very dark shade of amber and relatively clear. Some pretty nice lacing though all around, even a third way down still lacing strong. **upon repouring to finish the can I got a much nicer denser creamier looking head, second pours a charm I guess **

Aroma was an instant hit of earthiness, noble hop spice, and something very good smelling like toasted grains. There is also a subtle roast aroma that almost comes off as a super light aroma of coffee beans.

Taste follows the nose on this one with some added layers. The first thing that hits me is the spicy hop character and is very enjoyable to me. This is for lowed by grassiness. Then the roast/toasted grains comes last and it’s accompanied by some rich bread like taste.

Mouthfeel is light but full, it’s a tad watery but not enough to detract that much because of everything else going on. It has a nice level of carbonation, finishes clean and dry. My favorite part though the very present bitterness. It goes so so well with everything else going on, it’s like it melds everting together.

I really really liked this beer, I will definitely try more schilling beers in the future if I see more. This really just tastes like a super clean and smooth alt bier if that makes sense. Really happy sitting here sipping this one.

Zesty citrus-orange and lemon. Some peach and a hint of pineapple comes through as well.
Flavor abounds with orange and lemon zest, mango, peach, grass, and a timid nod at a dank note.Love letting this one warm a tad.

Aroma coconut, pineapple, orange cream sickle, and some apricot. 4.25

Taste follows but coconut and orange cream sickle dominate, with pineapple and apricot an afterthought but still nice and different. 4.25

Mouthfeel is bigger than medium, soft carbonation, not dry but a touch sticky, and at 8% big on sweet flavor, but still really approachable. 4.5

Overall this is a really nice NEDIPA that really begs you to take another sip. Well done and worth a shot for sure. 4.25

Poured from a pint can dated 01/25/2021 into a DFH tulip. Full tan head over a dark brown body with lots of lacing. Smell was like a sticky bun you eat for breakfast: cinnamon, maple, brown sugar and pecans but with a bourbon barrel smell. Taste is similar except slightly unexpectedly thinly muted. It still tastes fine but slightly underwhelming compared to the smell and just not as fulfilling as I was hoping. Mouthfeel was likewise on the thin end of the spectrum.

While this was fine per se, it was somewhat disappointing compared with other offerings from The Bruery.

Damn, she's a beauty. Fluffy head caps a turbid muddled peach base. SOLID retention. Cloudy lacing.
Nose is pumping citrus and rich grain, some mango follows.
Flavor definitely rocks the Citra, but the subtlety of some berry notes do peek in.
Feel is both creamy and a little pillowy. Great carbonation.

Fourth and last New Beer today: Nitro Coconut Truffle, another Blackwater Series nitro imperial stout from Southern Tier, clocking in at an even 10%.

Summary: this is tasty, and I had little doubt that would be the case. Yet, the coconut dominates the nose, leaving little room for anything else. On the palate, it's only slightly less one-note, allowing some chocolate and a kiss of salt to shine through, but it's still coconut-forward.

Good? Naturally. Amazing? No. Worth the four pack? At this price, I suppose so, but I'm far less impressed with this than the majority of ST Blackwater stouts.

Wow, some great offerings in the IPA fest. Beer #3 From DC Brau.

    Sticky Find

Wow a little darker than expected, but beautiful. Fluffy head pops, solid retention. Bountiful lacing.
The nose is glorious. Yes there is the citrus, pine and weed note. But the malt really comes in firmly.
Flavor follows nose and goes forth boldly. The pine, orange, buckwheat honey, and sticky icky is an elegant waltz.
Full for style, slick and mildly sticky finish.
Overall, this could be bad for my health if it was distro'd in CA.

Sticking with the fruited cream ale theme, next up is licks and kicks , a cherry/vanilla cream ale , from The North .
Final (for now:wink:) verdict : it's OK , but might get better with age.(Released 4/23)

At 7% abv, it's rather high for the style . Like S Tier's Imperial Cherry Gose , which flavor it resembles , it might not be well-served by that, in that the higher alcohol presence shows up as a (weak)cough-syrup-like element. That dissipates by half as it nears room temp, but still wish it were less apparent, or absent.

    Soooooo......
I'll be setting the other 3 aside for awhile, in hopes of improvement.
It was nostalgic*, if nothing else.
A: Ruby red, with slight orange tint. Light, very fine pink head.

*S: Smell? :O I'm having grandparent flashbacks . It's mostly cherry , that suddenly reminds me of Grandpa H.'s homemade chokecherry wine .(Judging by adult reaction at the time, it was VERY dry.:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:  [I usually helped him harvest the chokecherries - all over Delaware County]) That is , similar to dried cherry, or "natural" cherry soda, with some alcohol presence. There is some slight vanilla, that reminds me of Grandma H.'s whole vanilla beans, that were always around for various baking adventures. They had been soaked in some kind of spirit - not sure what. That combination is in this beer.
Slight bread crust aroma, as the head fades, & the beer warms.

T: Taste is the usual cream ale dry bread crust flavor, plus cherry cough syrup - but better and less sweet. A slight creamy vanilla taste lingers after finish. Light bitterness.

F: Feel is light-medium, a little juicy , with moderate very, very fine carbonation. Dry finish that leaves the tongue feeling lightly scrubbed.

This is an excellent corn lager. It most reminds me most of a helles. Although it is very clean and easy drinking, there are some very pleasant, if subtle, characteristics. This is by far the best canned beer I’ve had from Bierstadt - it doesn’t hurt that it was canned yesterday. I’ll be buying more!
