    Hello New Beer Weekend!!!

Well, done with work today, and it's time for a beer. Might as well have one I picked up on Wednesday.
Peanut Butter Porter - Hayes Public House - Buffalo, MN - American Porter - 6.5%

This beer delivers what it says it is. Nice peanut Butter flavor with chocolate malt notes. Delicious!

    From a 750ml crawler. Dated 8-7-24.

This is a pitch black pouring beer. Somewhat thick looking while pouring. The head that formed is a 1 finger brown color. The head retention isn't too good, and there's no lacing on the glass.
The aroma has a nice rich peanut butter aroma with hints of chocolate. The chocolate aroma is slightly roasted.
The flavor is a nice peanut butter flavor up front, and the flavor lingers. There's hints of chocolate that come in on the back side. Slightly roasted in character, the two flavors work great together.
The body is quite smooth. Slightly creamy feeling. Pretty decent body for a porter.
This beer delivers what it bills, and it does it well.

See you all tomorrow for more new beers. Cheers!

Good day BAs! My review of today's New Breakfast Beer:

Café Deth – from Revolution. Four pack of 12 fl oz cans purchased from Riverside Liquors, Grand Rapids, MI, 21/08/24, $ 38.00 (including tax and deposit), $ 0.784 /fl oz. Reviewed 08/09/24 (Review 33521). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “FILLED 10-04-2023”. On room temperature shelf at the store. Stored at 34 degrees F at home. Served at 54.5 degrees F (Couldn’t wait for it to warm to 57 F!) in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 58.6 degrees F.
    Appearance – 4.5
First pour – Deep Amber (SRM 15), hazy.
Body – Black (SRM 40), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, same, with light penetration only at the edge – red amber.
Head – Average (Maximum 2.2 cm, aggressive center pour), milk chocolate, high density and fizzy, short retention, leaving a 0.1 cm crown, and a 1.5 cm center island.
    Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4.25 – Sweet bourbon, weak coffee, some chocolate. No hops, no alcohol (14.8 % ABV, according to the label).
Flavor – 4.5 – Moderately sweet with chocolate and bourbon. Coffee is strong but doesn’t overwhelm the bourbon. No hops, no alcohol. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Burns the mouth a bit but has toned down before it hits the stomach. Medium gastric warming.
Palate – 4.25 – Medium; approaching creamy (Thank you oatmeal!); soft carbonation.
Final Impression and summation: 4.5 This went down fast! The bourbon barrels are less noticeable than in the other Revolution Deep Wood series I’ve had the privilege to consume, but this is still a delicious brew.

    Rating 4.42, rDev +0.7%

I've never had a beer from Greece until now: Olympic Brewery Mythos

    Appearance: Clear yellow, good head.

Smell: Kind of sweet, fruity, malt-liquory?

Taste: Sweetness to start, then some breadiness, but then finishes with a weird aftertaste like chalky fruity candy. Medium bodied, hurt by the finish.

Overall: I think this is my first Greek beer, it was in a mixed 4 pack. Started ok but the aftertaste is really strange. Interesting to try but pretty forgettable.

I'm working on a dinner menu for tonight. My daughter and her boys are coming over later. My daughter eats most everything, so she's easy. Her oldest is very picky, so I have to work around him. Her youngest is easy also, because his diet is almost exclusively white rice with soy sauce.
I'm starting the day with a fruited sour, Berry Sneaky, from Hamburg Brewing Co.
The beer is a dark pink color. Small light pink head that disappears rapidly. No lace.
    Sweet fruit aroma. Very sweet.
Berry taste, mostly strawberry and raspberry. Very sweet.
    Minimal tartness.

Well, one has to play the cards one is dealt. It was an ostensibly perfect week for getting some willow hunks burned this weekend, but yesterday’s one hour of light rain turned into seven on and off monsoon hours. Today might have worked, if not for the sustained 20 mph winds with gusts 30+ mph. Nope. So I just staged some things. I have tons of coffee stouts, so I opted for this Transient Buckley Reserve #2 from @HIGHPA. wow. This one fires on all cylinders. Great aroma of bourbon and maple. The flavor is intense and complex, following the nose with a hefty alcohol bite that never burns, but lets you know this is a big drink. The BLiS maple syrup barrels are stellar, really the secret sauce for any stout lucky enough to use them. The dark malts are earthy and meaty, providing a solid foundation to any bourbon and maple syrup sweetness. Tannins are present just enough to provide a subtle cleansing to a very long lingering tongue residue. Fantastic stuff here.

Folks it’s that time of the year! Where the Giants prove that their offseason business was pointless and that nothing going to change. Oh and also fall and football and seasonal beer and all that.

Good as ever. Hint more biscuit-y malt and less brown sugar. Finish is still sweet but there’s a dry bite right as it winds down. Malt leads but there’s hop character. Still on the lookout for Von Trapp!

    Cheers all!

Mildly hazy, peach colored body; great carbonation; thick head, white, sculpted and frothy. Very appealing aroma; citrus-forward; fresh tangerine and orange notes. Nice balanced taste; mild cracker base carrying very pleasing citrus flavors; faint lemon with a bolder white grapefruit character; fairly strong bitterness. Medium body; a little brash with alcohol heat; sharp and dry.

For an imperial India pale ale, this one is nicely balanced and flavorful. Its citrus character is well-rounded and only slightly marred with a fairly harsh mouthfeel.

    Good afternoon BA
I've never seen this beer without floaties and a layer of dust. I took a chance on this presumably eight month old bottle yesterday.
    Uerige Altbier
11.2oz swing top bottle stamped L03224 (presumably 8 months old now) poured into a stange glass at fridge temp 4.7% ABV. The beer pours bright, dark amber in color with dark khaki colored head. The head recedes to a single layer of bubbles and leaves some lacing. The aroma is mild with just a hint of toasted malt. The taste is bittersweet toasted malt with herbal/woodsy hop flavor and moderate bitterness. There's mild cardboard creeping in as well. The feel is thin to medium bodied with just less that average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, good. I suspect this particular beer has suffered some as I purchased it at room temperature yesterday and it does not have higher ABV or an oxygen absorbing cap to combat oxidation. Would definitely try again fresher or cold stored.

    Cheers all!

4 Hands/Tripping Animals Voltron Volume Five New England IPA, 7.0%; 3.11 overall

Pours a hazed straw/gold color with a pinky of beige colored head. Average-ish head retention &lacing

S: Some citrus, white grapes, very muted nose

T: Oranges, white grapes, almost like a porridge-like flavor & pears up front. Tangerine, white grapes & pears as this beer warms up, some cantaloupe too. Finishes like watered down orange/pineapple juice with a little cantaloupe

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, decent balance, slight acidity once warm

Not a great take on the style, flavors just didn't reach me

Congratulations on your beer review milestones #500 @Shanex and #600 @jonphisher !! Getting a bit back into hockey beyond playoffs with my eldest nephew’s NHL Rotisserie league (Les Abbey Taunts - Abbey in honour of my eldest niece) and my first round selection of Auston Matthews.

And with that, it’s now time to welcome one and all to New Beer Sunday #1020! As promised, the second of two from Wisconsin this weekend, more specifically from Micah @GreenBayBA . This is my first go at this brewery listed as De Pere in the BA database, but out of Ledgeview, Wisconsin via the can. I added this selection to the database.

Full review linked above. This beer reminds me of a radler, a feel of a half beer half lemonade. It's a sweet beer, lemonade and a citrus grapefruit mix, very light and easy drinking. Not a smidgen of bitterness. Overall, I needed a light and easy selection today, and this fits the bill. Thank you Micah, and I look forward to trying your two Barrel Aged Wisconsin brewery selections later this year.

    Cheers!

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Samplers and Commentators. We have several relatively new, up-and-coming, breweries in our area. I enjoy supporting them not only for the beer but because they are small businesses trying to operate in what is still a very difficult legal environment here in New Jersey. While last year's new law was a baby step, our breweries still face limitations foreign to our neighbors in New York and Pennsylvania - let alone the rest of the country.

Double Tap Brewing Co., in Whippany, NJ, is celebrating its second anniversary this weekend. It's located in a former post office just a couple of miles from where I grew and still live. The name comes from a comment by Benjamin Franklin that New Jersey is like a keg tapped at both ends (meaning NYC and Philadelphia). The owners are really nice folks and the brewery has a devoted group of regulars. In fact, it is often difficult to get a parking spot. I stopped by on Thursday to congratulate the owners and to try the anniversary DIPA called Terrible 2's, hopped with Nectaron, Citra, and Galaxy hops. Nectaron seems to be the "hot" hop at the moment. I enjoyed my pint and wrote a review, which I decided to post on the thread today.

I stopped at Double Tap this afternoon on my drive up from the shore to purchase a crowler. When I walked in I was overcome with the wonderful aroma of Sicilian fried chicken and veal croquettes being prepared by a local restaurant. It took all my strength (and the knowledge that our dog Chambo was in the car) to resist. Until last year, a New Jersey brewery could not permit a food truck or on-site food prep.

While Double Tap hasn't mastered Stouts yet, it's IPA game is solid - as evidenced by Terrible 2's. It is a dense, murky, tangerine color with an impressive, super creamy, bright white cap and lots sudsy lacing. The smell is fruity and floral with notes of pineapple, lemon, peach, melon, and fragrant flowery hops. The flavor is big and bold. The Citra and Galaxy hops provide clean citrus tastes of pineapple, lemon, and grapefruit, augmented by ripe melon. The Nectaron adds sweet tropical notes. I don't know whether the brewery added oats or lactose but there is an additional sweetness beyond the fruit. There is little compensating hop bitterness. The mouth feel is impressive: luxuriously thick and creamy with moderate carbonation, and you can easily feel the 9.5% ABV. Overall, Terrible Twos is a lovely, big, fruity Imperial IPA and a fitting way to celebrate Double Tap's second anniversary.

Soft, pale, lemonade yellow pour; soft, pastel yellow body, opaque; thick, frothy white head initially, quickly fades to a thin, wispy covering. Pleasant white grapefruit scent. Grapefruit tartness and bitterness greets the taste buds; a bit flat. Medium mouthfeel; a tad watery yet crisp and tart.

Not what I was expecting from this beer. It seems rather weak overall, especially with the appearance. I have three more cans to try over the coming days and weeks, so I'm open to reevaluating this beer if subsequent pours are radically different from this experience.

NBS #2. Blended with Lumber #3 from Timber Ales. I'm glad to see some distro from Timber Ales based upon its reputation for Stouts. Blend #3 was offered on Tavour but it was already sold out. Plus, the cost was outrageous. I found a single can locally for a fraction of the cost. My review is below but I'll highlight that the mouth feel is extraordinary. You could pour this over vanilla ice cream and eat it with a spoon! If I find another can I may just do so.

Poured at 62°. It is a very dark walnut - nearly black. The foamy, medium-mocha-colored head fizzled away quickly leaving a small ring around the glass and minimal lacing. The nose is big and fragrant with graham cracker, caramel, maple syrup, and subtle but noticeable bourbon. Wow, the maple syrup is huge in the flavor; it's like the slices of candied maple syrup you can purchase in Vermont. Beneath lies chocolate, caramel, freshly-brewed coffee, and nutty char. What is phenomenal is the mouth feel. Totally viscous - like motor oil, with low carbonation. While there is no escaping the 13.4% ABV, it is not overtly boozy - just big. Overall, this is my first experience with Timber Ales and it is memorable. While it is a little sweet for me, the taste and mouth feel are undeniably excellent. This is a tour de force!
