Putting the “Advocate” in BeerAdvocate

Beer Smack by | Dec 2010 | Issue #47

This past year, we’ve met tons of great people (and beers!) in our adventures. BeerAdvocate.com was even featured on Jeopardy!. But hands-down, the highlight for us has to be our being enthroned as honorary knights of the Brewers’ Mash Staff (Belgian Brewers Guild) for our contributions to Belgian beer and beer in general. Not only is it one of the oldest brewers’ guilds and a most prestigious honor, but we shared the moment with Charlie Papazian (Brewers Association) and Greg Koch (Stone Brewing Company), and our passion and knowledge with over 100 Guild members back in September.

The experience was beyond awesome, but we’re not here to brag about being knighted. As we swore with raised hands to defend authentic Belgian beer, the entire trip became an immediate reminder as to why we started this journey. It wasn’t just to review and talk about beer, but to support, promote and, yes, to defend good beer.

For the most part, we think we do a damn good job, but we realize that we can always do better. And that’s where we’re going with this rambling. As we move into 2011, we promise to put the “advocate” in BeerAdvocate by continuing to explore new and better ways to support, promote and defend good beer.

You can help, too. Email us your beer advocating ideas: [email protected]

Cheers, and happy holidays to you all!

Respect Beer.
