This specialty release was brewed by JP Williams in honor of the 50th Anniversary of America's first cross country ski touring center, created at the Trapp Family Lodge by Johannes von Trapp. Brewed colder and longer than a typical Helles, this style is known in Europe as a "Hell Naturtrüb"

.5L pour at the bierhall.

Presents hazy gold with an inch-plus head of white. Plenty of tattered lacing and persistent retention. Faint doughy malt in the nose. Medium bodied with a soft mouthfeel. Faint malt on the palate with zero hops. A bit biscuity in the end.

Poured from a 12 oz can dated BB 12/22/2025, into the test glass
A - Light straw color, nice clarity, a thin white cap is quick to recede. A steady stream of meandering spheres chase the surface.
S - Grassy hops, some lovely grainy cracker threads, a hint of lemongrass from the hops.
T - All the aromatics, with a slightly sweet element.
M - Pillowy soft, on the palate, with a brightness and balance thats a delight. Finish and linger are snappy, which I very much like.

Pours a hazy, watered Mello Yellow color with a finger of bright white head. Modest retention and lacing.

Lovely aroma of light bread, light mint, light lemongrass.

Lightly cakey taste with same other elements from the nose.

Soft, full feel for the style with near perfect soft, yet lively carbonation.

Very tasty beverage.

L: Pours a beautiful pale straw to straw color with a very light haze. A high slow pour results in three fingers of fluffy white head with good retention. After a while the head has fallen to a 3 mm ring around the circumference of the glass with a thin pillowy sheet occupying the interior of the glass. As the beer goes down it leaves a light spotty lacing on the glass.

S: Wet hay, yeasty bread, light notes of honey bread crust, light citrus, and a bit of floral spiciness.

T: Doughy yeast character, bread crust, floral notes, grassy notes, light notes of citrus, a hint of spiciness on the finish.

F: Light to light-medium body with medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is smooth with just a bit of prickly carbonation tickling the top of the palate and a nice light dryness on the finish.

O: I don't know if this is an improvement on the base beer, but it sure is tasty. The nose is the highlight here with a classic "German" nose: nice bready malts mixing with wet hay and grass. If you like German beer this one is for you. Highly recommended!

Can reads 'best before 6/22/21'; consumed on 4/29/21

Pours a lightly foggy lemon-gold body capped with multiple fingers of soapy, white foam; great head retention yields a slight yet choppy cap, a thin, frothy collar, and soapy globs of webby lacing stretching across the walls of the glass.

Aroma brings put notes of wet white bread against flowery Noble hops, easing into a tightly-wound middle of crisp rice cracker, peppery, floral aspects, and fresh-cut grass; toasted white bread sees a deepening pale malt accentuated into the back of of the bouquet, sporting bread crusts, hay, and hints of lime.

Taste features fresh bread dough enmeshed in soft Noble hops, accentuating a flowing minerality into the mid-palate with distant flaky straw in the backdrop; the back end highlights a wisp of lemon peel, and increasingly reinforced tones of delicately toasted malt and crisp bread crust through the finish.

Mouthfeel has a light body, trending thin in spots though elevated slightly by a moderate carbonation; a taut, airy spritz is dispersed across the mid-palate, bringing a prickly dryness highlighting flaky malt textures on the back end; the boggy weight of a wispy Noble hop presence partners with a moderate 'snap' on the swallow.

A bready Helles traditional in character and defined in its waves of clean minerality and zippy Noble hop profile; maybe not at the level of von Trapp's filtered take on the style, it's nonetheless a balanced and effortlessly quenching effort, very much in tune with the brewery's lager portfolio.

Had it on draft at the mothership. Delicious and very crisp. Went down smooth but had a great taste. Nice light beer. Wish it warmer outside to enjoy it

Pours a foamy marge 2 finger head, pillowy, with med retention, a bit of soapy lacing, very clear pale straw color

Nose is a little muted, but brings that nice grainy-sweet doughy straw pilsner malt, hint of corn, light floral hops

Taste brings more cereal grain and some corn notes with the grainy-sweet pilsner malts, straw, little bread dough, fair herbal floral hops as well, soft juicy malty lager, finishes dry, with a crisp bitterness, med bitterness with herbal and spicy hops

Mouth is med to a tad lighter bod, soft, med-higher prickly carb

Overall solid but a bit like a lighter pilsner, less like a Helles I think, not enough malt complexity and maltiness in general, and a bit high on the bitterness, but still an enjoyable lager regardless

16oz can poured into a tulip

A- pours a clear golden yellow color with a one-finger foamy white head that has good retention long after the pour

S- aromas of doughy malt and bread crust, grassy, spicy and floral hops. Slightly sulphuric yeast

T- clean doughy malt up front gives some notes of bread crust and crackers. Mid-palate gives some spicy and grassy hops with some floral undertones. The finish is clean and crisp, with more spicy hops and bready malt on the linger

M- light body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into a clean and crisp finish

O- extremely drinkable with great balance, an outstanding Helles

Crystal clear golden, thin head, good lacing. Aroma is super clean and bready with some peppery herbal notes. The taste is more of the same, very crisp with a round bready malt flavor and herbal lightly citrusy hops. Superb, better than their regular Helles in my opinion.
