The Sea Stares Back Again

This was a beer that I traded for a while ago and took a while to get to, as it ended up in my massive queue. Most of what Kane puts out has been wonderfully enjoyable and that was the case with this as it was so complex, smooth, and easily accessible. Being deceptively smooth was only the icing on the cake when all was said and done!

The appearance to this was muted, golden, and relatively bright as I held it up to the light. A complementary head topped this off as the lacing left behind was moderately extensive with most of the discernible rings being visible near the top of my pint glass. Lots of wheat and oats in the nose the the aroma was quite earthy, grainy, and full of white cheddar. Lots of light wood, dry white wine, underlying dankness, slick melon, and cantaloupe in the taste as this beer fully opened up once I took the first sip. Somewhat dry, a bit spicy, and certainly full, there was a lot to like here once the taste became familiar and this fully warmed up.

Lots of booze in this as this packed a punch but there was enough fruit and other flavors that it softened the blow just enough. Canned on 4/24/19, this held up well and was just as good as anything that I've had from either brewery. Nice to see something from my backyard that could stand up to better offerings from other parts of the country. This took a while to fully appreciate but was well worth the time as I enjoyed all of it's nuances and complexity!

 

Canned 4/24. A delicious and beautiful beer but it is a bit on the boozy side for me. Great nose though. Couldn't have more than one of these in a sitting, would need to be carried home.

 

 

 

 

 

Pouring from a 16 oz. can into a Tree House Willi Becher style glass, this beer pours out like a mix of what would be orange juice and blood orange juice. Completely hazy and forms a finger worth of tightly packed, tingy yellow bubbles to rest on top. 4.5

The nose brings in fruit notes of mango, orange, tangerine and even white grapes while having a creamsicle like sweetness as the background. Smelling deeply brings out a dank, musty skunkiness along with a kiss of pine tips. 4.5

The taste touches the tongue with that musty dankness before showing way to the fruit it has to offer. Peach flesh, dried cantaloupe, white grapes and wild berries. 4.5

The mouthfeel is dry, more resembling wine than beer at some points except for the spritz it leaves on the tongue and the creaminess it has to offer. It does dry your whole mouth out though. It also offers a sharpness that lets you know you are sipping on something close to 10%, but I wouldn’t say it’s causing an imbalance because of it. 4.25

Overall, I didn’t pick up any coconut I was expecting to because of the Sabro hops but nonetheless enjoyed the beer and experience. It’s complex with layers that are usually found in IPAs, but not tangling together throughout one IPA itself. For that, I enjoyed the experience. 4.5

 

Pilsner and British Pale Malt, Red Wheat and Oats. Sabro and Citra in the whirlpool. Dry hopped with Sabro, Mosaic and Citra powder. Earthy, spicy, citrusy, fruit juicy, fruit stripe gum, coconut, pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew, green, dank, dry white wine qualities, berries, raisins, stone fruit, I could go on forever. This is one of the most complex IPA’s I’ve had. What they’ve coaxed out of these ingredients is special. There are qualities that remind me of Belgian style IPA. There are qualities that remind me of Belgian Gueuze. Amazing stuff.
