10 oz. pour on draught at the brewery. It pours a dark walnut and there is no head or lacing; not even a ring. While I'm not surprised given the high ABV, it is a little disappointing. The smell is terrific! Big cocoa with creamy vanilla and a whiff of nuts. Its taste is decadent with rich, sweet cocoa, vanilla, and earthy, nutty malt. As it warms there are also notes of dark fruit and anise. The effect of the bourbon barrel is subtle but slightly warming. It compliments the other flavors rather than distracting. This Stout has a viscous, slightly oily mouth feel with minimal carbonation. The 12.7% ABV is surprisingly well-hidden. Overall, this ANTEAD variant is luscious, decadent, and a pleasure to drink.

2024 vintage; consumed on 11/20/2025
Pours an inky, motor-oil hue capped with just shy of a finger of khaki-hued foam; decent head retention leaves an inconsistent, paper-thin layer of cap, slim, frothy collar, and a few isolated strands of webby lacing places around the walls of the glass. 4
Aroma dark cacao nougat, sweet almond accent, silky vanilla underscore, 4.25
Taste dark cacao, rocky road ice cream, charry malt aggressive, barrel warmth through the swallow 4
Mouthfeel medium body, subdued fluff of mild carbonation, silky grit, oncoming barrel char prickles, 3.75
Adjuncted to impressive detail 4

Bottle to snifter.
Slow sipper throughout birthday celebrations.
Lots of fudge and vanilla. Almonds are subtle. well balanced.
Strange tidbit: I got one bottle each of the 2024 ANTEAD Rocky Road and Nutella variants and drank them in successive nights. I was momentarily confused as to which was which because I have the wrong wax on the bottles. Kane's website shows silver wax on the Rocky Road and Brown Wax on the Nutella. Mine are opposite.
