Our German-style black lager. Think black pils. High hop expression of rich tobacco and jasmine/ earl grey tea matched by its signature cocoa powder and pumpernickel malt profile. Crisp

Pours dark brown with a thin cream colored head, soapy lacing
Faint aromas of roasted malt, caramel and a little bready.
Taste is roasty, slightly sweet caramel and kind of earthy, a hit of semisweet chocolate
Mouthfeel is creamy smooth, full tasting and nice clean finish
Overall it is a really nice tasting, nicely layered lager

Dark brown, somewhat clear body with a sudsy mushroom colored head. Smells of roasted malt, dark yeast, cocoa, mild caramel, earth. Taste of caramel and brown bread, upfront, earthy yeast, cocoa, and roast finish with a touch of cola. Feel is light but not thin, roasty in a playful way, yeast dries it a bit, but not as dynamic as other CDL I have had

From the tap. Light roast on this Czech-style dark lager from the style experts. I wanted more heft to the body, and, if we are being honest, a little more bite on the finish.

Coffee black with red edges under a short tan head that condenses to a fairly thick, lumpy blanket with a bubbly ridge.
Roast levels are measured, exhibiting a subtle smoke within threads of tobacco, leaving plenty of room for nutty, leafy and rooty accents to develop well. Tangy, slightly licorice-esque and overall bitter, it's quite drinkable but not super expressive.
The medium-light but frothy body finishes semi-dry.

Canned on 3/30/22; consumed on 5/18/22
Pours a clear, deep chestnut-brown body with soft maroon edges and capped with a finger and a half of rich, pale beige foam; good head retention leaves a thin layer of cap, a moderate, creamy collar, and waves of webby/spotting lacing caked across the walls of the glass.
Aroma opens to rounded bakers cocoa and a soft coffee roast upfront, an extensive underscore of minerality flowing beneath tinges of nuttiness over time while a distant floral hop backing accents the closing impressions.
Taste features black bread crust and shreds of cocoa cut with a predominant minerality as floral hops take hold over the mid-palate and a calm malt roast phases to shades of tobacco toward the finish.
Mouthfeel brings a light body with a fluffy, moderate-high carbonation, delicately crisp textures remaining taut via a mineralic dryness over the mid-palate before embracing a subtle, bittering roast on the back end and overtly silky finish.
Leveled to complete balance, the focus on refining malts to an airy, toasty subtlety is tantamount, a delicate touch superceding any sense of roasty edge; a comprehensively consumable black lager.
