Cheers to @bwhit for this Other Half DDH Forever Simcoe, 8.5% ABV; 4.32 overall

Pours a very hazed gold with a thumb of cream colored head. Great head retention and lacing

    S: Green melon, Tangerine

T; Follows the nose, dryness, Pineapple and Grapefruit as well up front. Dryness, Pineapple, a kiss of lime and a little Kiwi Fruit as this beer warms up, plus dryness. Finishes a little dry with Pineapple and Pomelo, plus white grapes

MF: Medium body, creamy carbonation, nice balance

Lovely take on the style, dangerously drinkable

    A coffee stout from OddSides.
Poured stout black with a light brown head
The coffee was prominent, and the stout was good but that is about the extent of the beer.
Good, but not great coffee stout.
    Cheers all!

    Hello New Beer Weekend!!!

Holy cow, you all went crazy while I was working away today. I love it, and will catch up on this thread later. Now to my new beer, and I really had a tough choice.

I do like the flavor of this beer a lot. The biggest knock on this beer is it seems a bit thin for what it should be. If that is the only fault, then I'm doing ok.

This beer pours pitch black. No light at all shines through. The head is a thick 2 finger brown head. I am surprised how long the head lasted. There's just a bit of lacing on the glass.
The nose has a nice dose of cinnamon. Very strong, but not overpowering. Beautiful coffee notes and I also get lots of barrel notes in this beer.
Taste - The beer starts off coffee, and it's a nice smooth flavor. The cinnamon hits on the backside. I also get a nice hit of vanilla on the backside. Notes of barrel shine through all the way.
The body actually seems a bit thin. Very smooth feeling. I am not getting any burn off this beer.
While I think it's a bit thin, this beer really tastes delicious. Well worth trying.

See you all tomorrow for more while I'm snowed in. Cheers!

Im sampling Table Talk Czech dark lager tonight from Arbor Brewing Company in Ypsilanti, Michigan. this is a gift from @foundersasap as part of NBS BIF#18. THANK YOU! Glad to share this brew with y'all on a stormy night here in southern New England. Even cooler to have a tasty beer with a euchre reference, a game I played a TON in college!

    onto my review:
Sampling a 12 oz can at cellar temp and poured into a .5L dimple mug. No date stamp on can or label.
The beer pours a rich dark mahogany to coffee brown color. Light only passes through on the edges which reveals hints of garnet. A dense khaki colored head foams up about 0.5 cm and fades to a thin edge layer that remains through the sampling.
Aroma is grainy malt, some caramel and a bit of toasted dark bread. Some balance with faint grassy hops, but this is a malt forward nose.
First sip reveals a smooth texture and medium to light body with fine tingly carbonation. The beer is easy to drink.
Flavor is dark toasted bread and some caramel with hints of some dark chocolate too. Not really a hop flavor and as expected, no alcohol presence in bite or warmth.
Beer drinks easy and is gone too quickly. Glad to have had this one!

    Hello NBW.
Wow, life is crazy enough and then you throw a kitchen remodel in during my favorite sporting time of the year: march Madness. Oofah. But thankfully, there IS beer.
    Porter by Nøgne Ø
    Bottle stamped best before 31/10/25
Profoundly dark brown with a tan head that rises about two fingers in height and slowly recedes to a thin film.Decent retention with slight lacing.
Gentle roast notes make way for a smooth malt ride: mild chocolate notes, hints of earthy barley, and a nod towards caramalt. Also a hint of old fruit and earthiness.
The flavor starts with a blend of the aforementioned roasted malts and a vinous note that is a little "old" fruit, and almost leather to red wine barrel tasting. This really does develop, drift in one direction, come back, and meld together. A lot going on here.
Mouthfeel starts out almost fluffy before settling in to a medium heft. On the back end it moves from mildly fruity and sweet to a slightly bitter finish.
Overall, this is a really nice ride. I haven't had a "Baltic" porter, that hits the traditional notes, in quite a while.

Light golden color with good white cap.

Aroma of sweet, slightly caramely malt and light floral hops.

Taste on entry is sweet malt with a caramel touch. Hops are mild but sufficient to balance out the beer. Finishes clean with a bit of sweetness in the aftertaste.

    Medium texture with balancing carbonation.

Overall this is a good stab at the Mexican Lager style and making me think BBQ.

This is a beautiful clear pouring beer that is golden in color. A bit of carbonation bubbles are rising in the glass. The head that forms is quite fluffy and frothy looking, and white in color. Long lasting overall and some great lacing on the glass.
The aroma of this beer is a beautiful cereal grain smell. There's a slight floral aroma I get when I take in a deep smell of it.
Oh, wow! This beer is very complex. I get something in the flavor I didn't get off the aroma - hops. I get a beautiful cereal/grain flavor, which also has a slight buttery biscuit flavor. The floral element is way more than I was getting off the aroma. There's an earthy element to this beer. All these flavors just work to build each other.
Crisp, and very clean feeling. This beer actually has one hell of a body to it.
Damn solid, and I am really enjoying it a lot.

Be back later for more. Cheers!!!

44 cL can poured into a snifter in Toulouse, France. Heavy fluffy foam top stayed in place for the entire drink. Yellow-orange unfiltered brew. 7 weeks from packing to popping.
There’s no mistaking Citra hop on the nose. Grapefruit and pine dominate. Floral and sensory; lime zest. Touch of Cream of Wheat.,
Taste is a lovely burst of big citrus with a puckering hop slam, light pine, a fine creaminess, all boosted by high carbonation. Last grin is a rolling bitter finish.
Overall, this American-style NEIPA is dangerously quaffable and delicious.

Welcome one and all to New Beer Sunday #996! Back with the second of two Maine IPAs. This one is three weeks fresher.

    Maine Little Whaleboat

    Bottle Notes:
Purchased at Beer on the Wall at store temperature on 3/20/24 for $8.00, refrigerated upon returning home until this morning. 16.9 oz bottled 2/13/24 at 12:49:31. 6.5% ABV. Drink this beer fresh within 90 days of the stamped born on date. India Pale Ale. Freeport, Maine.

Little Whaleboat islands (made up of Little Whaleboat, Nate & Tuck) are a cluster of 3 small islands and ledges in Casco Bay, a vital link in the chain of protected islands conserved by Maine Coast Heritage Trust. Protection of these islands provides sanctuary to a range of wildlife including seals, seabirds, shorebirds, and wading birds, while preserving a unique place off the coast of Maine for future generations to experience.

Appearance: About a 2/3 bottle pour into a nucleated tulip glass. Somewhat foggy straw yellow pour, light carbonation, bright white head leaves creamy sustained cover and light soapy lacing. 4.0

Aroma: Grapefruit front and center, citrus, mango, pineapple, pine. Strong, very nice.. 4.25

Taste: Dank grapefruit and pine, light citrus pineapple backing. Close to the aroma's strength and consistent. Digging this. 4.25

Mouthfeel: Light and easy drinking, thin to medium watery body, slightly dry and bitter overall overcoming the sweet flavors. Faintly felt carbonation, drinks at or slightly below the listed ABV. Pine and grapefruit lingers dryly on the finish. 4.5

    Overall:
Liking this beer, it's fresh, has traditional IPA flavors nailed down, well executed, broad enjoyable flavors. This one is for me, thank you Maine for doing what's right! 4.25

Determined to catch up with the thread while enjoying this one. Hope you all have an equally or even better beer day!

Good morning, fellow beer lovers. I had an enjoyable run / hike / walk that included some impromptu off-trail exploration that included plenty of bushwhacking and even having to create a bridge out of fallen logs to get over an area that was flowing from all the rain yesterday. Now it's time to sit down, get some work done and enjoy some beer.

I enjoyed two aged Firestone Walker beers yesterday, and figured I'd pick up where I left off, this time with one of the classic Imperial Stouts - Parabola
    [IMG]
    2018 vintage.

While I've had Parabola before, this is my first time rating it, and as such I found myself paying more attention to it than normal. The first thing that struck me was that as this poured out of the bottle, it had a surprising amber hue with almost Dr. Pepper vibes. In the glass it's the super deep brown I expected, but with just a little bit of light coming in around the edges. Not much in the way of head, but given the ABV and age this came as no surprise.

The aroma doesn't burst from the glass, but up close it is wonderful. Vanilla, milk chocolate and faint oak are all present, and combine to create a very nice smelling beer.

Taste is much less sweet than the nose. I'm greeted with strong roasted malts lending a nice bitterness that is well balanced by chocolate notes and faint fig notes mid-palate. Barrel and alcohol show up more on the finish.

    Overall, an excellent, gimmick-free beer.

T - Lite grains, certainly smoked but quite palatable. Wheat driven, with again a nice citrusy thread.
M - Light in body, crisp and effervescent. Excellent dry finish
O - A very good offering that has enough smoked quality, while being easy to drink. texture is airy and crisp, the dry finish is a delight.

Ha! I saw your review of Wolfe's Neck yesterday and almost responded with how I recall really liking the beer as a fairly OG IPA and that I was mildly surprised at your review. Though I am fairly certain I've had different opinions on IPAs than you before, this seemed off.

Then I saw I hadn't reviewed Wolfe's Neck (though I know I had it). I got to thinking I was probably thinking of Little Wheelboat, confirmed by checking my rating of it. And as if you read my mind, you decided to give me your opinion on the mistaken beer.

And you seemed to say what I remember. I haven't re-read my review closely, yet, because I am going to do something I haven't done in a while... since back when @Roguer and I seemed to have similar distribution of new beers. I'm going to compare reviews (apologies to the rest of NBW, maybe?).

The GF bought a bottle of Little Whaleboat a while back, so what I am loking at is 2 months older than your version of the beer.

I get no fogginess in my pour - in fact, it is near and clear. Otherwise, this current experience mirrors yours (edit: until the GF poured in the bottom of the shared bottle, when I got that haziness).

Even though pineapple is a note I rarely pick out on my own, I can sometimes find it when looking for it. I cannot here, but I do get a bit of grassy to catty herbal hop aroma in the background that you didn't mention in the nose, but did in the taste.

So overall, we are in pretty close agreement on this beer, whatever that means to you or others. Cheers!

(also edit: I get some of that pineapple when the haziness is added to my beer. Too funny!)
    ---

I finally looked at my review, and I did seem to focus on the citrus more than the tropical. I also noticed my review was off a time I drank the beer from the bottle. I had no idea why a glass wouldn't have been involved, but the GF looked up that we hit Wolf Trap for a Jackson Browne concert. That's a reasonable explanation, as we pre-game on the lawn with beer and snacks..

This morning’s new to me beer - “St. George’s Day” a German style Dunkel Lager by Art History Brewing in collab with Church Street Brewing:

Poured at 52°. Two fingers of mousse like khaki foam; ok cap retention; solid ring; some soapy lace on swirl; deep amber verging on coppery/ruby with good clarity. Nose is caramel malt; very light banana. Sweet caramel malt and toasted brown bread. Medium light body; smooth feel; moderate minus carbonation; dry grainy finish. Overall, more malt forward than esters; quite enjoyable.

    From a 375ml bottle. 2017-2021

Slight hiss upon opening the bottle. Absolutely beautiful brown pour. Thick looking as heck while pouring. Holding the beer to the light I see just a faint hint of it at the bottom of the glass. The head is just a great looking shade of tan. 1 finger in size, and I did an aggressive pour of this beer. Very long lasting overall, for the ABV. There's no lacing on the glass, however.
The aroma is so off the chart with dark fruit. I get so much fig, raisin, plum and dates. I also get notes of caramel, toffee, and cherry.
The flavor starts off with the caramel and toffee. The dark fruit comes up next to add to the caramel and toffee. The finish adds a hint of cherry to the flavor profile. There's also a very faint bitterness from the hops.
Very smooth feeling. It isn't as thick as it looked while pouring, but it still pretty full bodied. Very slight warming from the alcohol.
    This is downright amazing. Wow!
