"our public transportation is... well, its best if you just say if you have access to a car or not."

LA Metro is great in central LA and parts of the Valley. All the beer destinations in LA proper can be reached quite easy on Metro.

Ok...so you're staying in Century City and you want to go to Eagle Rock brewery. Explain to me how that's easy.

All of the Lucky Balwins locations usually have at least 4 Craftsman taps at a time too.

I think adding Newhall Refinery in Newhall would be a good call. Hands down the best beer bar in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Would add Stout (all three locations) too. They typically have at least a few solid brews from the area.

Echoing @SpecialAgentDaleCooper, you can definitely get from LA to Placentia in 40-50 minutes (obviously depending on time of day), so really not THAT different from SF-Berkeley considering the frequency of BART delays.

I think the distinction was that public transit is an option to get you there in less than an hour, whereas public transit for LA to Placentia would be considerably longer (1 hour 46 minutes between Union Station and the Bruery according to Google Maps, as an example).

Ok, Round 2! I recreated the map so I probably left some things off, let me know if I missed anything. The map has layers, Red for breweries, green for bars and restaurants and yellow for bottle shops. Due to a combination of lack of experience and information overload I need some more help with notable bars and restaurants for OC/IE.

    ------------------

Inspired by @Xul 's recent 'Visiting San Diego guide threads I figured LA/Orange County/Inland Empire could use one as well. The LA/OC/IE beer scene isn't as hopping (See what I did there!?!? I'm sorry... I promise not to do it anymore) as San Diego but if you are here on vacation, for work, passing through or just plain stuck we have plenty of good beer. So feel free to ask any questions you may have and someone should be able to help you out.

This guide is meant to give you a general overview of the beer in the area. The most important thing to know when visiting LA/OC/IE is that it is huge. And the traffic sucks lots of the time. So, feel free to use this thread for asking questions about your trip to the region, but the two most important things you need to mention are where you are actually going to be staying and do you have access to a car. The LA Metro public transporation is not great, if you are staying near one of the rail lines you have options. If you're not staying near a metro line then you will probably want a car if you want to do any exploring.

This map has a pretty broad selection of available breweries, bars, restaurants and bottle shops. It should come in handy for finding what is in area where you are staying.

The map is far from all encompassing. New places open, others close and some dont get much publicity. No guarantees.

A Guide to California Breweries Growler Fill Policies. Continually updated, if you have any questions just ask.

    Notable Breweries:
    Los Angeles
Beachwood BBQ & Brewing (Long Beach)
Their larger, and brewing, location. Other Beachwood location is in Seal Beach (OC)

    Smog City (Torrance)
Very close to Monkish, Strand, Absolution and The Dudes

El Segundo Brewing Company (El Segundo)
    Close to LAX

    Golden Road Brewing (LA)
Short drive to Eagle Rock Brewery and Highland Park Brewery

    Orange County
Northern OC around Anaheim/Fullerton/Orange has lots of breweries (see map) and if you have a car can easily hit many of them up in one day.

    The Bruery (Placentia)

    Bottle Logic Brewing (Anaheim)

    Noble Ale Works (Anaheim)

    Inland Empire
    Hanger 24

    Bottle Shops
Your best bet for bottle shops is to choose something close to you unless you are looking for something specific*. Many (Most?) of the Whole Foods have decent to very good bottle availability and variety. Sunset Beer Company, Ramirez Liquor (Two locations), Vendome (3/4? Locations) and Total Wine and More (Lots of locations) are all good choices.

*Pliny? Tough luck. Its a relative pain to get even for locals. That said, if you really really really really want bottles of Pliny, they usually get delivered at set times once a week, once every other week or once a month to where ever they get distributed to and usually sell out in hours. Your BEST bet, do an IP trade. If you don't want bottles, great news many bars usually have it on tap. Even better news, California has more IPAs than Pliny, and many of them are... gasp... better than Pliny (Personal opinion)!!!

    Bars and Restaurants
    Los Angeles

    Congregation Ale Houses
Three locations; Pasadena (close to Stone Company Store), Azusa (Brews) and Long Beach (Next to Beachwood BBQ).

    38 Degrees (Alhambra)
Located in near Ohana Brewing Tasting Room

    Beer Belly (Koreatown)

    Tonys Darts Away (Burbank)
    Vegan/vegetarian friendly

    Mohawk Bend
    Vegan/vegetarian friendly

    Orange County
    Haven Gastropub

    Inland Empire
    Eureka! (Redlands and Claremont)

    The Back Abby (Claremont)

I set up a trip on google maps for 10:30 AM, which is pretty good time as far as traffic goes, and I got anywhere between 1 hr 40 min to 1 hr and 50 min.

Your listings for the SFV are pretty bare:

    Bottle Shops

    Valley Beverage
    Liquid Wine and Spirits
    Green Jug
    Total Wine Northridge
    Whole Foods Encino

    Bars

    The Woodman
    Boneyard Bistro
    Taps! Valley Gastropub
    Instant Replay
    Blue Dog Tavern
    Prohibition Burgers
The Local Peasant (Woodland Hills location & Sherman Oaks)
    Pedlars Fork

    Breweries

Looks like you got Macleod, but there are others

    Pac City Brewing
San Fernando Brewing (not yet open, but soon)
Hand Brewing (not yet open, but soon)

(not mine, but this blog covers both east and west SFV for spots of note http://hoppedla.com/ )

Pacific Plate Brewing in Monrovia is another brewery missing too, (average beers imho, but your map is pretty all encompasing, so figured I'd mention it)

Great work by the way, looks good.

Thanks, Where is Pac City? I'm having trouble finding it. Im going to hold off on adding breweries/places until they open.

They appear to be located in Atlanta... unless I am missing something.
