    Hello all,

This is my first forum post. At approximately 1-2 PM on August 19 I will be arriving in Waterbury for a short (a couple hours) stay. What places do I need to visit? and where can I pick up a case of Heady Topper, now that the pub area of the brewery is closed (a damn shame, I really wish I could see the facility)?

I am not against going to places outside of Waterbury, but I am just passing through VT on my way to ME. The upswing is that I have a DD for the experience.

Any suggestions would be more than welcome as to what I should be doing and where I should be spending my coin. I would really like to try some stuff from Lawson's and Hill if there is a place that serves those things under one roof it would be amazing. I hear that none of these places do growlers :-(

Thanks again for any help/info/advice, and for taking the time to read this.

Based upon your visit description, Prohibition Pig, Blackback and Craft Beer Cellar are your best bets.

There really isn't that much info on visiting Vermont.

The 19th is a Tuesday...Pro Pig won't open until 4:00 I believe. Craft Beer Cellar has a 4 pack per person limit on Heady Topper, which is delivered on Wednesday. They will likely be out. If you want a case of Heady on a Tuesday, best bet is
WAITSFIELD VILLAGE GROCERY, 4348 Main St, Waitsfield.

Awesome, thanks for all the replies.

Especially, HuskyHawk, that is a place I will definitely have to go. I didn't know that this was such a complicated process, or that it was so dictated by what day of the week it is.

@ RKing, first forum post, didn't realize there was a search bar. I will thumb through that whopping list of links when I have the time, so thanks for all the info.

By the way, you should hit the Backback pub in Waterbury to get some Hill Farmstead or Lawsons on tap. Waitsfield is about 15 minutes or so south of Waterbury, on Rt 100. There are 4-6 places that carry Heady Topper there, all delivered on Tuesday. Only the Village Grocery has cases. If it is out, you can still likely grab a case worth separately at the other shops (all on the same street really).

BTW this is likely to be painful, we have done it a couple of times in the past 6 weeks and there is NO good way to do it. Each time we have cursed our over ambition and regretted our madness (until we reached the new destination and had a beer.) it may look ok on a map but....

I did wonder where the OP was coming from. Unless you are coming from upstate NY (far upstate), Vermont is not on the way to Maine. Not remotely so. If they are coming from PA, they should really just stop at Treehouse on the way and then visit some good places in Maine, as there are plenty.

indeed. VT is an "end", not a "means" (unless you're headed to Montreal)

You can go from Vermont to Maine and go through the beautiful White Mountains on the way - and end up at Ebenezer's Pub like I did

Three? It takes me 3.5 to get from Franklin MA to Rochester VT., with no stops That's almost all highway. Waterbury is another 50 minutes at least. Waterbury to the usual spots on coastal Maine must be a good six or more. There is no highway going east west, through VT, NH and ME not one. If Portland, less than that, but still far out of the way if coming from the south.

Haha, I am well aware of the geography. Long story short, I go to Maine a few times yearly, and not from PA, more from around North Carolina area. So, distance is relative, with the extra hour or two that it takes to hit Waterbury being inconsequential to me. I have done most of the other big ticket stuff, such as Maine Beer Company, NEBCO and Portsmouth, but I really want to try some of the famed Vermont stuff. The trip is going to be half the fun as far as I am concerned.

As I said earlier, I wasn't really aware that this was such an ordeal. If I can't get quite what I want, I will just do my best to content myself with what I do get as well as a nice trip through a scenic area of my favorite country in the world. Plus, I have a DD so I can be blasted the whole time.

I appreciate all the comments and wisdom, I am sure I will have a great time.

Any other info would be welcome.

    Thanks again.

Does anyone know which towns (Burlington, Montpelier, Shelbourne) get their heady deliveries first, second, and third on Monday's?

Also approximate times would be great too. I don't want to call these places and ask. I feel like they get a million heady topper questions a week. I am thinking of making a day trip on Monday and would also like to go to fiddlehead and would love not spending the entire day waiting around/chasing around heady topper.
