    Hey what's going on?!

I got a giant leg of lamb in the oven, and man I can't wait for that sucker! Still got some more dishes to prepare so time to sit and relax is far and few between.

I had 10 cubic yards of mulch delivered Friday, and I just got the last bit of it in my lawn and man I am exhausted, but the results are so worth it!

That said I went out for some exercise and inhaled a ton of pollen. I nearly died!

Therefore I need a tasty beverage.

    Let's go!

The Dewey Booter - Dewey Beer Co.

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Pale bodied opaque yellow, not quite turbid and fills with lots of good rising white light carbonation. Fluffy and cream like topped head, off white in color with classic three finger height and retention. Head mixes with big bubbles and some light lacing.

Tropical hop notes with a good spicy kick on the nose. Hints light pineapple, there's a sweet cream note in here too. Good spicy pine and green herbs with a sense of thick malt as well. This aroma seems considerably large for a session IPA which makes it more impressive.

Palate is real nice. Light bodied and expected, but if minor fault of a slightly chalky tasting palate. Still real classic IPA flavors kick in. Green herbs with a soft hinting bitterness and airy malt faint sweetness to give cover. Mild touches more so of citrus than tropical, but also a big earthy kick that flirts with dank and has a soil like flavor.

    Real good session IPA.

Unfiltered Brewing Mise en Garde. This is an oak aged strong ale with Belgian yeast. It is about 4 or 5 years old.

Pours an orange gold with moderate head that dissipates slowly leaving a partial thin film over the beer’s surface.

The nose is punctuated by a dry woody character. A general spicy note follows. A little green apple. Burnt sugar.

The taste is also dominated by the barrel. Dry woody notes, caramel apple, light bitter finish.

Medium bodied. The beer is incredibly smooth and quite enjoyable.

A rather unique tasting beer that kept growing on me as I drank it. The apple note of the nose was milder on the tongue which was a good thing for my tastes. This is entered as a Barleywine on Untappd which is a head scratcher. Worth a try if you happen upon it.

    Cheers!

Im very close to home delivery cause on their site they just updated…now I’m 12 oz six packs for a buck less that the four pack. They must be even fresher than the can I bought since 12 oz cans is brand new.

I wish you luck in your search.

Back home now, after a couple of detours, and my windows are open for the first time this year. The phone says it's 50 outside, but it seems a lot warmer.

Now to a beer that I picked up on a detour.

Devil's Cave - Island City Brewing -Winona, MN - Oatmeal Stout - 5.8% ABV

This is the first beer I've had from them, and I can see they have a lot listed in here. We don't get them this far north, so if I want more I have to go to the cities. So how is it?

Well, pretty good. Nice creamy flavor. Sweet, but not too much for my taste. Smooth and full bodied. I am enjoying this a lot.

This beer pours pitch black. When held up to the light, nothing comes through. The head is tan colored and fairly thick at 3 fingers. The head looks somewhat frothy and fluffy. The retention is decent, and there's some lacing on the glass.
The aroma is very full of chocolate from the malts and the aroma seems a sweeter milk chocolate.
The taste does indeed have some chocolate in it, and some lactose as well, but not as much as the nose let on. The chocolate fades a bit on the back with a slight, yet pleasing bitterness. Very slight roasted coffee flavor also shows up in this beer.
Very creamy, and smooth feeling beer. Decent body for the lower ABV.
Quite tasty overall, and something I'm happy I picked up.

I'll be back in a bit for another that I picked up on a detour.

Happy Easter everyone! The weather was so nice today I had a fire to burn up some of the branches and such that came down over the winter. A little splitting of some logs as well.
Wanted something “light” as I was swinging an axe and this was one of the lighter ones that had.
Can’t describe the pour or aroma, my apologies! The taste though, that I can share.
I was looking forward to trying this one as it was labeled a Schwarzbier and those check my boxes, so to speak.
Well, this one is more dark Pilsner than Schwarzbier but it was quite good nonetheless. The floral hops are always present as well as toasted malts that are not quite biscuit like but are close. The bitterness is mild and blends in well. If you’re a fan of the dark Pilsner, then give this one a shot.
    Cheers!

I love a good piney west coast IPA, and this fits the bill. Yes, there's a faint hint of citrus, but it goes away and turns to pine. I am happy with this one, and glad I got it.

Nice hiss upon opening the can with a bit of smoke coming out of it. This beer pours clear and a nice dark golden color. There's some carbonation bubbles rising in the glass. The head that forms is 3 finger, and it looks very slightly off white. It took 2 tries to pour the whole beer into the glass. The head retention is decent, and there's some lacing on the glass.
Upon my first whiff of this beer, I got a slightly citrus aroma. I went in for another smell, and I was getting a pine aroma. I keep getting pine as I go back for another sample of the aroma.
Taste - This is a pine hop flavored beer. Very faint citrus hits for a moment, then it goes full on pine, and the pine builds on my taste buds. A second sip confirms this. This beer is not overly bitter, but has a decent amount of bitterness.
Somewhat sticky/resin feeling. Very good body.
I love a classic West Coast, and this is a delicious one.

I think I've got one more in me, but it will be a bit while I finish enjoying this beer.

I cannot get over this weather and how extreme it's been for a few years now. I'm a big weather nerd and these trends are beyond abnormal but unfortunately will soon be normal as the frequency increases. Went from the 80s back to freezing and then back into the 80s, tornadoes, all of this IN EARLY APRIL in our region...things are just not looking too good and this summer is shaping up to be as active as '21 which was disastrous in my area and there are parts that are still recovering from the tornadoes that year.

Day 2, a pair of beers from Transient Artisan Ales, arguably my favorite brewery. My target in NBS BIF #17 will get to experience a LOT of Transient’s “heavier” side with the box that is supposed to hit his porch soon, but this first beer harkens back to Transient’s startup days, when they focused on farmhouse style ales.

I present Obelus Galaxy: Batch 1,000, an oak fermented Brett saison dry hopped with Galaxy. Try saying THAT fast 5 times.

Pours a hazy orange color with a HUGE white head that sticks around for the duration of the beer. The nose features the Galaxy hops, with tropical citrus notes (especially passion fruit) and a nice oak note as well to accompany the funky Brett aromas.

The citrus and passion fruit flavors are forward on the taste, followed quickly by the funky Brett flavors, with the oak closing things out for a smooth, nuanced finish. This is absolutely delicious.

The mouthfeel is medium and effervescent, fitting the style. This is an easy drinking, flavorful saison I’d gladly try again and again.

Good evening NBS/nbw and thanks to @Beersnake1 for hosting this weeks adventures.
    Happy Easter to everyone.
We had to go visit Team #2 in Rhode Island as our son is dealing with gallstones/blocked ducts/ and all thats associated with this. As a parent of 2 adult sons ( I use adult in the timeline sense, as they will aways be percieved as "the boys" ) it is unerving to visit them hospitalized and waiting for surgery.
Anyway at least there was a brewery 5 minutes from the hospital!
Todays offering is from Lops Brewing in Woonsocket RI.
A very clean, tightly run taproom with a nice diversity of options, both on draft and to go.
Japanese Rice Lager is for review, They also were pouring, a Bock, a Brown ale, an Irish Stout, 1 session, 1 standard IPA, a lovely Red Ale, and a seltzer.
I appreciate the range and tip my hat to the team there for such a nice place.

    Be well
    Do good

Enjoyed on draft at the brewery taproom
A - Beautiful light straw color, excellent clarity, gentle carbonation meanders topside.
Thin white cap is quick to exit
S - Lite grainy nose, hint of earthy hops, just a hint in the floral department,
T - Tight grain alley, stays in the lanes nicely, a touch of lemongrass is a nice touch.
M - Dry start, nice texture, with a uniformity that i like, Excellent snappy finish
O - A quite good local take on the style, hard to hide any flaws here, and this brewer had nothing to hide!!

Mostly cloudy, dull orange body; thick, rocky, creamy, white head. Orange creamsicle aroma; a touch of cereal grain; wondrous citrus note, light mandarin orange note; pineapple and other tropical fruits. Excellent citrus flavors; grapefruit; light baked bread notes; moderate bitterness. Medium-heavy body; mildly citric; juicy with a touch of dryness; soft sweetness.

I can't quite put my finger on this one, but it is a very enjoyable beer. It exudes a sublime, unassuming balance and complexity. Simple and wonderful, all in one package.
