Growing Pleasures
When BeerAdvocate magazine launched in December 2006, people told us print was dead and that the mag wouldn’t last long—especially as a monthly. Even today, many young technophiles tell us print journalism is on its way out; however, BA mag continues to grow, as more and more consumers seek information behind the beers they drink. And let’s face it, there’s something about holding and reading bound paper that technology has yet to replicate.
Speaking of bound paper, you may have noticed some tweaks in recent issues. Last issue (#63), we added Trouble Brewing, a comic strip; Barkeep, a column profiling exceptional beer bars; and Kindred Spirits, with beer cocktail recipes from a new bartender each month. As for this issue, we’ve punched the mag up by eight pages (it’s now 64 pages plus the cover), and we’re introducing the first installment of a rotating column that will feature special topics from a lineup of talented writers. And you’ll notice even more changes in upcoming issues—from content to design—thanks to the hard work of our team.
It took us years to finally get here, and we’ve had our share of growing pains, but today we find pleasure in this continued growth and the challenges it presents. The mag’s success is a tribute to the overall growth that’s occurring throughout the entire craft beer community, something that we’re proud to be a part of—an honor that we owe, in part, to all of you.
Thanks for your continued support.
Respect Beer. ■
