Green Mill in Uptown. Al Capone used to hang out there. Selection is nothing special, but the vibe is really cool.

The Green Mill for sure, also Shuba's or any of the other old Schlitz Taverns.

This is the old mobster hang out, my dad took me there when I was in highschool. He just bought a new car and instructed the Vallet to make sure he looked the car, the kid said "trust me, no body going to break into your car sir, or we break their legs!"

oh and the steaks are freaking epic. also I agree with Green Mill try to see the Flat Cats, a great swing band but not sure if they play there often anymore

Sounds like you had a great experience, but I went to G&G once (maybe twice?) and wouldn't go back. The steaks are just not up to par with most of the high end steakhouses in the city. It's definitely got that "old boys club" feel to it, though. It's probably been nearly 10 years since I've been there, so it could've changed, but I'm guessing it hasn't.

I have never had a bad cut from there I am not a regular but have been there many times of the years I say all the time if you compare Mortons, Chicago cut, Gibsons etc. at that high of quality it is more what location you prefer, cause they all have awesome steaks!

There are late night places everywhere. My advice is go drink a lot, then see what you stumble upon. Or even ask the bartender the closest place for good late night food. Burrito places are on just about every block around here, so there are plenty of those options (Taco Burrito Palace #2 is one of my favorites, as well as Taco Burrito House [multiple locations]). But, at that time of day and in your state of mind, it won't much matter! And you really should hit up The Wiener's Circle if you're going to be drinking late at night and looking for food...the experience is like none other. It may not be that close to where you're drinking, but it's not terribly far from Local Option.

hmmm. Then I guess it's nothing special to try some of the limited release taps of barrels and casks these places can offer that you can't find easily anywhere else. Why even go out and drink beer when you can stay home with a 6 pack of Bud!
Don't bother either looking at "beer menus" to see what beers are out there when you have to go to "just a bar" to try the beer. https://www.beermenus.com/cities/chicago

Thad not what I said at all. There are a number of great bars where you can experience limited release taps and cask ales. Some of the places he listed, like Nick's beer garden, are not bars that I would recommend a tourist to go out there way to visit.

There are a number of great places that have the items you listed, and I would rather point someone in that direction than have them go to a run of the mill bar, which is why I then listed several locations that serve great beer.

When will you be in town? There's a great event going on at Links taproom on the 25th.

GI Clybourn has been non-AB-InBev-owned for its entire existence, up until now (hell, I forget if ownership has even switched over yet, but I think it has). So basically, for the last 27 years or so, it's been independently-owned, but definitely boycott it now, because in the last 2 months or so, it has turned into a brewpub for Lucifer's faithful?

It's got the same staff as it ever has, looks the same as ever, has the same lineup of beers (same brewers), etc. There's no reason to stay away just because John Hall and AB wanted to consolidate ownership of the GI brand (which has admittedly been very confusing the last few years).

Also, second Bitter Pops. I don't want to blow the place up (because it's really small and gets crowded very easily), but it's a cool concept/place, and the staff is really nice. Their pricing in the taproom is fantastic, too; had a 16 oz. pour of Enjoy By for $7 over the weekend, and they had a Uinta BA Black Quad (Labyrinth or something, I think?) for $5 for 16 oz. FIVE BUCKS.

What a time to drink beer!

Exactly!!!! They also had (back in April) Waldo $5 for 16oz pour. They always have great beer on tap. I'm there every week. It is my favorite place in Chicago.

Yeah, I was gonna go over for Waldo's and they tapped out of it. Love those little pitchers they've got.

I agree, but 18th St. and 3 Floyd's is outside of Chicago, and on a map it doesn't look that far, but in Chicago traffic it'll take you at least 90mins (depends on where you're at obviously).
